Piston Height in Block 170V pre war block

The pistons in my 170V block are .044 inches or 1.1176 below the top of the cylinder block. See pictures. Sorry for the imperial dial indicator .044 =1.1176mm. The connecting rods are 194 mm with 44mm compression height pistons. The piston-connecting rod combination measures 238.09 mm. Is this normal that the pistons do not travel to the top of the cylinder block? Thank you for any assistance of thoughts on the subject.

I think that's ok, you don't have a diesel engine that needs very high compression.

Good Morning Jim,

Alfred is right: In modern Mercedes Diesel Engines (build after year 1983) the pistons travel 0,85mm over the cylinder block. This is necessary to realize a compression of 21 (prechamber Diesel engine) or 18 (direct injection Diesel engine).

Not so gasoline engines: The pistons are below the top of the cylinder block or in some engines the pistons stop at the top of the cylinder block because of the much lower compression ratio.
